I would like to say we had a great time at your HIE. Everything was wonderful. ESp. Elizabeth at the desk. She switched our room which made us very happy. Your shuttle service was great and very friendly drivers.

The room had the hall light out when we entered in the evening necessitating us to fumble into the room to find a light to turn on to see. The bathroom sink stopper would not go up after I closed it to take out my contact lens. I tried to fix it under the sink to no avail. Since we were very tired and didn't want to call the front desk, I just pulled it out. It was so covered with thick residue of germs and gunk that it turned my stomach thinking of the unhealthy environment it created. It was disgusting. The shower would not go all the way on so water was a light stream and the faucet where the water orginially comes out of in the tub was running hard too, thus wasting our precious water on earth. I pulled with all my might but it would not stop. Since this was only an overnight stay for one night we tolerated all of this but will think twice before booking a Holiday Inn property again. The breakfast, however, was very good.

We couldn't be more pleased with the service and how helpful and accommodating the hotel staff was. The free breakfast every morning was a real treat. We were in walking distance to public transportation and the gaslamp district. The hotel is on a hill so bring your walking shoes. One night we came in to smelling home baked cookies,what a treat for your guests. Next time we travel we will be staying at a Holiday Inn Express. We even received a courtesy call from one of the staff members when we returned home. You should be very proud of your staff. Thanks for a great vacation!

I swore I'd write a review of the hotel because we had such a great experience. The rooms are spacious, clean, and nicely furnished with a refridgerator, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, and suitcase stand. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a decent continental breakfast with hot scrambled eggs (which until now I hadn't seen since I was a kid), but you can't beat a free meal. The location is perfectly situated between the Gaslamp District/Convention Center and Balboa Park. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its balance between low cost and amenities.

The parking garage is VERY tight and I would not receommend anyone with a full sized van or SUV attempt to park here. The room door had to be pushed/pulled shutr, or it would not latch closed. Bathroom countertop is 17" deep and 24" or so wide = no room for placing make up, shaving items, hair dryers, etc.
