If you want to stay in the real Mazatlan with the locals, instead of being in the tourist zoo north of town. This is a great choice. The views from the ocean view rooms are wonderful, you have the best view of the nicest stretch of waterfron in towm. In addition to the ocean, the seaside promenade is before you, and you can take in a lot of local color just by hanging out on your balcony. It really is a short walk to the old town, small museums and galleries, and the nicest plaza in town. You have a wide choice of restaurants and small bars along the waterfront within 100yds of the hotel. All the ocean front rooms have a nice little balcony, rooms themselve are clean, the beds comfortable, and you have everything you basically need. Staff is friendly, pleasant, and helpful; the service was great, no problems. You will hear some street noise with the ocean view rooms, but the traffic is pretty sparse after 10pm, it wasn't a problem for us, we had no trouble sleeping. But if you're sensitive to traffic noise, you might get bugged, and want to take a back room instead.

What a deal!! One of the lowest priced hotels in Mazatlan with across the street from a nice beach (we upgraded to ocean view, and what a view it was, for an additional $10/night). Very clean, large room (try to get a corner room). Consistent hot water for showering. Beds are not plush and pillows a bit lumpy but we had good nights' sleep. Even though it's overlooking the Malecon and a busy street, the doors and windows did a good job of sealing off the noise. Within walking distance of the Machado, cathedral, market and theater. The downstairs restaurant, El Shrimp Bucket, offered nice breakfasts and dinners, inside or outdoors. The only things lacking that we'd have liked were a refrigerator and coffee pot. The pool area is very nice, but the water was quite cool.

I stayed at the La Siesta Nov 15-22. It is an older hotel across the street from the ocean. I stayed in an ocean view room which is one of the best ocean view deals in town. The room was good size, nice and clean with a nice balcony overlooking the ocean. The beach across the road was great for swimming. The waves were not too big and not too small and the water was warm. The hotel is about 4 blocks west of the Plaza Machado and opera house where there are many restaurants and much activity at night. There is a great massage place about 2 or 3 blocks east of the hotel. It is called the Aroma Spa and massages were only 150 pesos. You can take a green bus right in front of the hotel to the golden zone for only 8 pesos. The bus coming back does not drop you off in front of the hotel though. You need to get off at the Mercado by the cathedral and walk the 4 or 5 blocks. The hotel area is laid back and fairly quiet. There are good beer specials at the Belmar Hotel along with a ping pong table. The ocean view rooms are kind of noisy because the street runs right in front of the hotel and it is fairly busy with buses and trucks and cars between 630am-1030pm but there sure is an incredible sunset. Another fun thing to do is climb to the top of the lighthouse hill which is not far from the hotel. It provides a great view. I wish there was a place to rent a bike near the hotel. The hotel is probably best for travelers over 30 years old.

  • Much better than the tourist area

If you want to see the best part of Mazatlan stay here. The rooms are clean and the view of the ocean was great. For the money best place in Mazatlan. Also, go to Canucks on open mic night. Lots of fun. Todd & Bobby
