The excellent front desk service provided by Angela, made what could have been a frustrating experience instead a relaxed and enjoyable experience at the Sheraton Carlsbad. In booking last minute, my husband attempted to contact the hotel directly. Despite dialing the local number, every time he attempted to make the reservation, he was connected to central reservations. We needed connecting double rooms on short notice to accommodate our family. Central reservations assured my husband this was available. When we got to the hotel, it was fully booked. While they did have rooms for us, the two rooms were not even in the same building, much less connecting. Apparently, central reservations did not even note this requirement in the reservation. Angela listened politely and responded professionally in explaining the situation to us. While she could not get us the room type promised to us the first night (we all crowded into a standard double room), she waived cancellation charges for the second room, and got us the connecting rooms for the second night. While we did have to pack our bags the next morning, she had the hotel staff transfer our belongings to the connecting rooms the next day while we were out and about. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The grounds are lovely and the pool warm enough to swim in even in winter. The restaurant serves delicious breakfast at reasonable prices. Our first room was on the second floor facing the parking lot. While trees provided adequate visual screening, it was quite noisy at night. Our rooms in Building D the second night were much quieter. The hotel is close to La Jolla Village with its wonderful restaurants and shopping, and a short drive to Legoland (our prime destination this trip).

Overall this was a nice hotel but I would give it closer to 3 stars not 4+. The bathroom in our room had no fan/vent to pull steam from showers out. The pool was not heated and with overcast days in the 60's-70's it was too cold to swim in and the jacuzzi was too hot for our kids to use. The room was clean and service was good. We passed on the hotel restaurant because it seemed to be geared to a much older customer.

I pick this hotel to stay because of the good review. Outside look of this hotel is pretty. but, inside the room smell really bad. I couldn't sleep because of that. Specially the pillows have a really bad smell. Give them 3 star because the service is really good.

Have stayed multiple times. For the price its a great place to stay with your family. The rooms are comfortable and have fridges and free wireless. The pool is nice. Only negative thing is that the parking may not be super close to your room.
