We recently spent a night at this hotel, which appears lovely at first blush. The lobby is modern and chic, and the bar seemed to be a popular spot. However, the guest rooms are somewhat shabby for this caliber of hotel. The hotel was clearly a 1950s-60s beach hotel to which only cosmetic updates have been made. The furniture, bedding, and curtains were pretty and beachy, but the small room had a loud, old through-the-wall air conditioning unit, and an ancient sliding door to the balcony. The bathroom was clean, but a new vanity didn't disguise the old plumbing and shower tiles. It was relatively clean and suited its purpose, but there was nothing luxurious about it. Holiday Inn quality at Sheraton rates? No thanks.

Nice location with a balcony view of the Pacific only five blocks away. Lobby was gorgeous, beds were very comfortable and the interior of the room was done very nicely. However, the room came equipped with a window A/C unit which was very loud and went off and on so frequently that it was impossible to sleep. Fortunately, it was cool at night and we cool sleep by leaving the sliding glass door to the balcony ajar. I can't imagine what this would be like in high summer. We paid $*+ for three nights and for that kind of money I would expect a quiet central air system. Other than that, the hotel was very nice.

The hotel is nice. The staff was nice. It was close to the pier. So, in that respect I would recommend it. What I did not like is the way they try to bleed you for money from beginning to end. Upon entering the room I was impressed with the cleanliness, but I quickly noticed there was no coffee pot, which I am very accustomed to getting, I wanted to look for local attractions but there was no guide book like most places have, and there was no pen and paper. I soon saw all the ways they want to charge you for extras, like the mini bar with $* water and a $* twix bar, no free internet - you have to pay for it. If you want coffee delivered, its a reasonable $* a pot PLUS $* delivey fee, sales tax, and a 18% gratuity all attached. I was so mad at their money grubbin ways that I didnt use or buy anything, so when I checked out I expected to get my $* deposit back. The smug clerk said he will be happy to process my deposit refund- minus the $* parking fee. I told him I was not made aware of the fee and he told me I should have seen it online when I paid for the room, I didnt like his attitude. In short, I wont go back again, I realize the economy is bad- all the more reason to not nickel and dime the few of us who are still traveling.
