I am an American living and working in Mexico, and I stay stay at the Freeman at least once a month for work. It is a nice hotel, clean, right on a nice part of the ocean. Rooms are nice, especially the ocean view rooms with balcony. Breakfast is included with your stay here, and it is good- Mexican style breakfast. Small, but cute little pool area on the roof of the hotel, great sunset views from here. If you stay here, there is a ferry to Stone Island just a short taxi ride away. Stone Island is a wonderful place to spend the day, with some great little Mexican outdoor restaurants right on the beach, which is beautiful. However, Hotel Freeman is not in the Golden Zone, so if you are coming to Mazatlan for the first time or on a honeymoon or special vacation, I would suggest looking at the hotels up the beach in the Zone. They all have more of that tropical-resorty feel, with big pool areas and are on a great stretch of nice sandy beach, and are in the middle of all the restaurants and little market shops and stores and stuff. Definitely the more happening area. They are generally more expensive though than the Freeman and the other hotels on the North end. You could stay at the Freeman and take a taxi up to the Golden Zone, but its kind of a far walk. So it all depends on what you are looking for on your trip to Mazatlan. If you want to experience Mazatlan away from all the people and noise, stay at the Freeman, if not, look at the Golden Zone!
